FOOTBALL ON TRACK FOR ITS LARGEST SIGNING CLASS FOOTBALL MEN (2/1/2012) |
Riverside City College football coach Tom Craft announced an additional 10 football signings today, which marks the national signing period for student-athletes across the nation. Riverside got a jump on the signings in December when 11 players signed mid-year, allowing them to move on to their four-year university after the fall semester.
The 21 signings is the second-largest signing class in Riverside City College football history, and has a chance to become the largest recruiting class ever, according to the District's Sports Information Office. The previous high was in 2005 when Riverside had 22 players transition on to four-year universities after going 7-4 and winning the conference title.
But the 2012 class could surpass the 2005 squad as Craft says there are still four sophomore players who must way until the completion of their AA degree in June to accept offers. Of the 21 signings, 14 players received Division I offers, easily the largest Division I class in the program's history. The sophomore class finished their two-year careers with a win/loss record of 21-1.
Players signing commitments today are recording-breaking-quarterback Dalton Livingston (Seven Lakes High School/Katy, TX) who will take his arm to the University of Utah. Kicker Wesley Feer (Chino Hills/Chino, CA) will move on to San Diego State, while linebacker Rashad Rainey (North/Riverside, CA) has accepted an offer from the University of New Mexico. Running back Andre Hunt (Moreno Valley/Moreno Valley, CA) will progress to West Texas A&M, while offensive lineman Damon Nixon (Corona/Corona, CA) will move on to St. Joseph's University in Indiana.
Offensive lineman John O'Brien (Jurupa Valley/Riverside, CA) has signed with Southwestern Louisiana, a Division I-AA program, while safety Joshua Moxley (Moreno Valley/Moreno Valley, CA) and defensive lineman Javon Hampton have both agreed to offers from Virginia Union. Tight end Daryl Anderson (AB Miller High School) has committed to Redlands University. Wide receiver Stevie Will has committed to Central Washington University and he'll sign his papers after successful completion of his winter-session classes early next month.
The above players join the following 10 who signed previously and transferred at the semester: Eddie Lackey, Baylor University Will Smith, Texas Tech Lee Adams, Texas Tech Bruce Jones, Texas Tech Sadale Foster, Texas Tech Justin Rayside, Indiana Markus Smith, Neveda Jon Greenwald, Louisiana Tech Richard Greenwald, Louisiana Tech Mustafa Johnson, Florida Atlantic Zaire Anderson, Nebraska

FOOTBALL COMPLETES UNDEFEATED SEASON WITH WIN OVER SADDLEBACK FOOTBALL MEN (11/19/2011) |
Riverside completed only its second undefeated season in school history, wrapping up the 2011 season with an 11-0 record after beating Saddleback 31-14 in the Golden State Bowl Saturday night. With the victory, Riverside also extended its national-best win streak to 19 games, while the sophomore concluded their careers with a 21-1 record, by far the best two-year mark in the College's history.
The Tigers took advantage of three Saddleback interceptions and four lost fumbles to jump out to a 14-0 lead and turned back several Saddleback drives to secure the victory. Riverside took advantage of Saddleback's miscues early. Following Bruce Jones' one-handed interception that was returned 55 yards to the Saddleback 34-yard line, the Tigers got on the scoreboard two plays later on EJ Schexnayder's 30-yard run after breaking a tackle in the backfield. Riverside upped the lead to 14-0 in the first quarter when quarterback Dalton Livingston found Sadale Foster for a 22-yard scoring strike in the right corner of the endzone.
Saddleback would find the endzone on the second play of its next possession as Ben Gomez found a streaking Rodney Woodland open for an 80-yard scoring pass. Woodland would eventually tie the game at 14-14 with 5:05 to play in the half on a 19-yard run.
Riverside took a 17-14 lead into the locker room at the intermission as Wesley Feer connected on a 39-yard field goal following Saddleback's third interception of the first half.
The Tigers scored on their first possession of the third quarter as Andre Hunt scampered for a 41-yard score. The Riverside defense then took over, forcing three Saddleback punts in the third quarter. The Tigers then stopped Saddleback's three fourth quarter drives by forcing fumbles. The first drive was stopped at the Tigers' 6-yard line.
The MVP of the game was Riverside sophomore linebacker Zaire Anderson who finished the game with a game-high 12 tackles including 4.5 tackles for lost yardage, 3.5 sacks, a quarterback hurry, and forced two fumbles. Sophomore tailback Andre Hunt earned the offensive player of the game award after rushing for 121 yards and two scores on 23 carries. Tiger linebacker Will Smith was named defensive player of the game after making several key stops, including eight tackles, a pass break up, and two fumble recoveries.

Riverside ran its unbeaten streak to 16 games, the longest in the nation, with a 35-27 victory over Santa Ana. But it wasn't easy.
Leading 24-7 at halftime, Riverside appeared to be an easy 30 minutes away from moving its record to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in East Conference play, but then something happened. Santa Ana woke up. The Dons scored 20 points within 10 minutes of the third quarter. Ironically, it might have been the smallest of point totals that eventually did Santa Ana in. After scoring its third touchdown in the third quarter, Riverside's Eddie Lackey blocked the PAT and Markus Smith scoped it up, racing 86 yards for two points. The score seemed to wake up the Tigers because Riverside took the ensuing kickoff and marched down the field, scoring on a Donald James 2-yard plunge for a 32-27 lead. Wesley Feer added a 45-yard field goal with 1:12 remaining to seal the win.
The two teams put on an offensive showcase, amassing 816 yards in total offense. But in the end it was Riverside's defense that pulled the curtain on the Dons. After scoring its third touchdown in the third quarter, Riverside''s defense allowed the Dons to cross midfield just once. The Tigers finished with six sacks and 11 tackles which resulted in loss yardage, most coming in the final 18 minutes of the game. Riverside also intercepted Santa Ana twice. Riverside also limited the Dons to 32 yards on the ground on 25 rushing attempts.
After getting off to a slow start, Santa Ana did manage to pick apart the Riverside secondary for 332 yards on 23 of 35 passing. Riverside countered with 194 yards on the ground on 40 carries and 258 yards through the air. Sophomore quarterback Dalton Livingston was 29 of 43 with 3 interceptions. Sophomore Andre Hunt led the ground game, rolling up 92 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. Dalton continued to spread the ball around, using nine different receivers.

RIVERSIDE ROUTS VICTOR VALLEY, 73-7 FOOTBALL MEN (9/17/2011) |
Riverside tuned up for its showdown next Saturday (Sept. 24) at Wheelock Field with two-time national champion Mt. San Antonio by routing Victor Valley, 73-7, before 1,000 fans in Victorville.
With the win, Riverside has posted 126 points in two games, while giving up 13. The 73 points is the third most in school history (school record is 130 points in 1924 vs. El Centro). The 73 points is the most scored by Riverside since a Barry Meier-led team scored 62 vs. San Diego City in 1987.
The score could have been much worse, but Riverside opted to take a knee the final 6:29 minutes of the game. At one point, the Tigers had a first-and-goal at the 1-yard line, but opted to take a knee before kicking a field goal. A score would have made it 80-0. Victor Valley broke the shutout with 2:38 remaining in the game.
Next Saturday, Riverside, ranked No. 8 in the nation, takes on No. 2 Mt. San Antonio at 6 pm at Wheelock Field. A standing-room only crowd is expected for the showdown.
Many of Riverside's starters played just a half, but that didn't keep sophomore quarterback Dalton Livingston from tying the college record for touchdown passes. He threw five touchdowns on 19 of 25 passing for 218 yards. His five touchdowns ties Coy Glass (2008 vs. Victor Valley) and Chris Hagle (1993 vs. San Diego City). Livingston threw two scores to Sadale Foster (5 catches for 43 yards) and Stevie Will (4-39) and another to Joshua Waller (3-77).
