FOUR PLAYERS SELECTED TO WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM SOCCER WOMEN (12/9/2009) |
Riverside had four players named to the Orange Empire Conference Women's Soccer Team it was announced this morning by the conference office.
Leading the list of honorees was sophomore goalie Christina Beckerle. A two-year starter in goal, the Riverside Poly High School graduate allowed 18 goals in 1,580 minutes played. She posted seven shutouts and recorded 85 saves as the Tigers advanced to the Southern California Regional tournament for just the second time in school history. Also named to the first team was Nicole Cunningham, a sophomore out of Corona High School. Cunningham, a midfielder, had two goals and assist for the Tigers.
Two other players - Reosha Campbell, a freshman out of Arlington High School, and Alyssa Popov, a sophomore who prepped at Corona Centennial High School - earned second team honors. Campbell recorded a team-best 12 goals with an assist, while Popov finished with six goals and five assists as she closed out her Tiger career. |

SANTA MONICA ENDS RIVERSIDE SEASON WITH A 2-0 VICTORY SOCCER WOMEN (11/21/2009) |
Santa Monica downed Riverside, 2-0, in a first-round match of the Southern California Regional tournament. The loss ends the Tigers' season. Santa Monica advances to the second round of the tournament on Tuesday where the Corsairs will take on Ventura, the No. 2 seed.

RIVERSIDE EARNS PLAYOFF, TRAVELS TO SANTA MONICA SOCCER WOMEN (11/18/2009) |
Riverside women's soccer team has been seeded 10th for the Southern California tournament and will travel to Santa Monica on Saturday, November 21, to take on the Corsairs. Kickoff will be 6 p.m. at their soccer field on campus (1900 Pico Blvd).
Riverside was one of five Orange Empire Conference teams to make the playoffs. Santiago Canyon, the conference champions, is seeded No. 1 and will play Santa Ana, the No. 16 team and a member of the conference. Cypress also made the playoffs and is seeded No. 5 and will face Orange Coast, No. 12, and another participate in the OEC.
Riverside, which finished third in the conference race, takes a 11-3-6 record into the playoffs, just its second appearance in the post-season. Meanwhile, Santa Monica is 12-3-6 on the season after finishing second in the Western State-South Division. The Corsairs are led by Kari Proto (7 goals, 3 assists), Mercy Tejada (4 and 6) and Jesica Brambila (5 and 3). Goalie Bronwyn OOOOâà Neill is allowing 1.17 goals per match.
Winner of the Riverside-Santa Monica match will face the winner of the Antelope Valley, No. 15,-Ventura, No. 2, match. Cerritos is the defending state champions. The Falcons - at No. 8 seed - host San Diego Mesa.

WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS IN SEASON FINALE, AWAITS PLAYOFF BID SOCCER WOMEN (11/13/2009) |
Riverside fell 5-1 to Santiago Canyon, the state's No. 1 ranked team, in both team's Orange Empire Conference finale. But despite the loss, Riverside figures to be a strong candidate for the post season. In soccer, only the conference champion is assured a post-season bid. After that the coaches' association uses a complicated power-ranking system to determine the top remaining teams.
The regional tournaments will feature the top 16 teams in the south and the top 16 in the north, with the top four from each regional meeting for the state championship.
In the loss to Santiago Canyon (15-0-1, 18-0-2), Riverside (8-3-5, 11-3-6) fell behind 2-0 at halftime and 4-0 midway through the second half when Reosha Campbell scored. |

WOMEN'S SOCCER POSITIONS ITSELF FOR PLAYOFF BID SOCCER WOMEN (11/10/2009) |
Riverside women's soccer team continued its push for a post-season bid as the Tigers scored a 2-0 victory over Saddleback in an Orange Empire Conference match.
Headed into its final match on Friday against Santiago Canyon, which has already wrapped up the conference championship, the Tigers are one-point better than Orange Coast in the race for third place. In soccer, only the conference champion is awarded an automatic playoff spot. The remainder of the field is built on strength of schedule and other factors that figure into a power-ranking system.
In the win over Saddleback, Riverside got unassisted goals from Nicole Burke and Yvette Martinez. Meanwhile, goalie Christina Beckerle had four saves for the Tigers. Riverside takes an 8-2-5 conference record and a 11-2-6 overall record into their final match. |

RIVERSIDE ROLLS TO A 5-0 WIN OVER GOLDEN WEST SOCCER WOMEN (11/6/2009) |
Riverside took sole possession of third place in the Orange Empire Conference as the Tigers scored a 5-0 victory over winless Golden West, and Fullerton's upset of Orange Coast. Reosha Campbell's goal in the 30th minute, assisted by Stephanie Gonzales, was all the women needed, but Danielle Delong, Jacqlyn Spencer and Alyssa Popov (2) also scored. Other assists went to Nicole Burk, Marissa Fritsch, Raylene Ferguson and Campbell. The goalkeeping tandem of Christina Beckerle and Natalie Yanez each posted two saves in 60 and 30 minutes, respectively. RCC moves to 10-2-6, 7-2-5 in conference. |

RIVERSIDE BATTLES CYPRESS TO A 0-0 TIE SOCCER WOMEN (11/3/2009) |
Riverside continues to strengthen its bid for a post-season slot after the Tigers battled Cypress to a 0-0 tie in an Orange Empire Conference match. Each year, Cypress (14-2-2, 9-2-2), who won the state title in 2006, is in the hunt for the conference title.
"it was very physical match," said Riverside head coach Lynsey Jalayer. "We held them off early in the second half and late we started to put pressure on them."
Sophomore goalie Christina Beckerle made 8 saves for the Tigers (9-2-6, 6-2-5 in conference).

Riverside women's soccer team moved a step closer to ensure a post-season bid after the Tigers scored a 4-0 victory over Fullerton in an Orange Empire Conference match.
Riverside got all of the scoring it would need when Nicole Cunningham knocked home a penalty shot in the first half. Riverside went on to secure a goal from Reosha Campbell, taking a 2-0 halftime lead. Marissa Fritsch put the match away with two second-half goals. Riverside improved to 9-2-5 overall and 6-2-4 in conference. |

RIVERSIDE CONTINUES DRIVE TO POSSIBLE POST-SEASON BERTH SOCCER WOMEN (10/27/2009) |
Riverside women's soccer team improved to 5-2-4 in Orange Empire Conference play after a 3-1 victory over Irvine Valley today. The Tigers continue their drive to a possible post-season berth with the victory. Riverside has five matches remaining in the regular season, including Friday's match at 3 p.m. at the District's Norco Campus soccer facility. In their first meeting, the two teams tied 2-2.
In the win over Irvine Valley, Riverside got goals from Alyssa Popov, Danielle DeLong and Marissa Fritsch. Raylene Ferguson assisted on DeLong's and Fritsch's goals. Popov gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute of the match. Irvine Valley (1-8-2, 3-11-2) tied the match in the 10th minute, but DeLong scored 21 minutes into the match. Fritsch later added a goal in the 60th minute.

For the second consecutive match, Riverside had to settle for a 1-1 tie as Santa Ana scored late in the teams' Orange Empire Conference match at the Norco Campus soccer center.
Reosha Campbell (Arlington) gave Riverside the lead as she scored on a scramble in front of the net in the 48th minute. Santa Ana's Salina Ortiz responded by beating Tiger keeper Christina Beckerle on a 35-yard free kick just under the bar to tie the match in the 75th minute. RCC, which out-shot the visitors 12-6, slipped to 7-2-5, 4-2-4 in conference. Santa Ana is 10-3-1, 6-3-1 in conference.

RIVERSIDE SETTLES FOR A 1-1 TIE WITH ORANGE COAST SOCCER WOMEN (10/16/2009) |
Orange Coast scored in extra tie as the Pirates rallied for a 1-1 tie with Riverside in an Orange Empire Conference match. Riverside (4-2-3 in conference, 7-2-4 overall) took a 1-0 lead on Nicole Burk's unassisted goal in the second half.
Riverside appeared to have taken a 1-0 lead in the first half, but the Tigers' shot on goal was ruled to have hit the football cross bar. The Tigers eventually took a 1-0 lead when Burke scored from 25 yards out.
After failing to score on a disputed goal in the first half on a shot that was ruled to hit the football cross bar, Riverside could only earn a draw when the host Pirates scored on a penalty shot in extra time. Riverside goalie Christina Beckerle recorded 8 saves. OCC is now 10-2-1, 6-2-1 in conference. |

SANTIAGO CANYON EDGES RIVERSIDE, 1-0 SOCCER WOMEN (10/13/2009) |
Santiago Canyon's Leslie Bryant converted a penalty kick in the 74th minute as the Hawks flew off with a 1-0 Orange Empire Conference win over Riverside.
Bryant's game-win goal was set-up when Stacey Cervantes found Bri Lopez down the right-hand side. Lopez raced beyond the defender and then was brought down in the box
Riverside goalkeeper Christina Beckerle made 8 saves in the match, but could not stop the penalty shot. RCC is 7-2-3 overall and 4-2-2 in conference. Meanwhile, Santiago Canyon, the stat's top-ranked team, moves to 10-0-2 and 7-0-1. |

LATE GOAL GIVES RIVERSIDE WIN OVER SADDLEBACK SOCCER WOMEN (10/9/2009) |
Riverside scored late in the second half to break a 1-1 tie and post a 2-1 victory over Saddleback College in a women's Orange Empire Conference soccer game on Friday afternoon at the Rancho Capistrano field.
There was plenty of offense during the game with both schools getting 12 shots off, and the goals that were scored were far from routine. Riverside (7-1-3 overall, 4-1-2 in OEC) scored first when a ball centered by Danielle Delong was scrambled in front of the Gaucho goal before trickling into the right corner in what may have been an own goal with Lorena Salcedo probably the last Tiger to touch the ball.
Saddleback (1-9-2 overall, 0-6-1 in OEC) answered back early in the second half when Brittany Flores' direct kick from midfield was misplayed in front of the Tiger goal, caromed off the ankle of a Gaucho forward, and was finally punched in by Alyssa Sivongsay to tie the score at 1-1. Both teams put up a barrage of shots in the second with few getting close to the net. However, a Tiger pass into the Saddleback defense was brushed away by goalkeeper Kat Pegg who got a piece of the ball but not all of it, allowing Riverside forward Reosha Campbell to chase down the loose ball and bounce it past a defender into an empty net. |

RIVERSIDE BLANKS GOLDEN WEST, 6-0 SOCCER WOMEN (10/6/2009) |
Reosha Campbell (Arlington) scored three straight times in the first half as the host Tigers rolled to a 6-0 shutout of Golden West College in an Orange Empire Conference match.
Danielle Delong (ML King) had two goals and an assist and sophomore Megan Pereira logged a goal and an assist as Riverside moved to 6-1-3 overall, 3-1-2 in conference. With forward Alyssa Popov injured, Riverside got everyone involved in the attack which produced a 25 to 3 shot advantage. Also garnering assists were Marissa Fritsch (2), Nicole Burk and Vahna Shuett. Natalie Yanez worked the final 65 minutes in goal and posted one save. Christina Beckerle started the match but did not record a save.

WOMEN'S SOCCER FIGHTS CYPRESS TO A 0-0 TIE SOCCER WOMEN (10/2/2009) |
Christina Beckerle made five first-half saves as Riverside withstood a 9-shot, first-half barrage from Cypress, but needed only one more stop in the second half to secure a scoreless draw with the 10th ranked team in the state. After the break, the Tigers dominated time of possession and matched scoring chances with the Chargers, leading coach Lynsey Jalayer to say, "I am so pleased with the effort of the team and the shutout." RCC moves to 5-1-3, 2-1-3 in conference, while Cypress slips to 9-0-1, 4-0-1.

Trailing 2-1 in the second half, Reosha Campbell scored off a pass from Alyssa Popov as Riverside rallied for a 2-2 tie with Fullerton in an Orange Empire Conference match.
Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Nicole Cunningham evened the match, but Fullerton (3-0-2, 5-2-2) quickly regained the lead. Campbell then tied the match mid-way through the second half.
Goalie Christina Beckerle stopped just three of the Hornets' five shots on goal. The tie moves Riverside's record to 2-1-1 in conference and 5-1-2 overall. |

IRVINE VALLEY FORFEITS SOCCER MATCH SOCCER WOMEN (9/24/2009) |
Irvine Valley announced today that it will forfeit next Friday's Orange Empire Conference soccer match with Riverside due to lack of players. The Lasers reportedly have been hit hard by injuries and are unable to fill a team.
The match was scheduled to be played at the District's Norco Campus. The forfeit win improves the Tigers' record to 5-1-1. Riverside will return to action next Tuesday when when its ventures to Fullerton for a 1 p.m. match. |

Sophomore Alyssa Popov scored a pair of second-half goals as visiting Riverside edged previously unbeaten Santa Ana College, 3-2.
Danielle Delong (ML King) opened the scoring for the Tigers (4-1-1, 1-1 in conference) in the 14th minute with an unassisted goal. Riverside women's soccer team had its four-match unbeaten streak stopped when Orange Coast scored a first-half goal and then beat back the Tigers in the second half to take a 1-0 victory in an Orange Empire Conference match.
Riverside unleashed 17 shots on goal, but couldn't push one across as the Tigers fall to 3-1-1 overall. The victory kept the Pirates unbeaten at 5-0. |

RIVERSIDE DOWNS SOUTHWESTERN, 2-0 SOCCER WOMEN (9/11/2009) |
Midfielder Danielle Delong (ML King) had a goal and an assist as Riverside topped Southwestern 2-0 at Chula Vista. Following a scoreless first half, Delong took a feed from Marissa Fritsch (Corona) and scored in the 49th minute, then later in the 72nd minute, Delong assisted on a Reosha Campbell's (Arlington) goal. Goalkeeper Christina Beckerle preserved her first shutout of the season by stopping a penalty shot in the 88th minute, which gave her a total of four saves on the day. In finishing the preseason with a 3-0-1 record, coach Lynsey Jalayer confessed, "I'm pleased with what we've done so far," but added, "we need to play well in both halves."

WOMEN'S SOCCER TIES MIRAMAR, 1-1 SOCCER WOMEN (9/8/2009) |
Riverside got an unassisted goal from Alyssa Popov (Centennial HS) goal in the 48th minute, but the Tigers couldn't hold off Miramar as they managed to tie Riverside, 1-1, in a non-conference game at the soccer complex on the Norco Campus.
Miramar used a corner kick in the 56th minute to score its only goal of the match. The Tigers (2-0-1) had a chance to win the match late, but missed a 10-yard shot in the final two minutes.
Riverside goalkeeper Christina Beckerle (Poly) finished with 11 saves. "Everyone is thinking about the play late in the game, but we came out pretty strong against a good opponent," said coach Lynsey Jalayer.

Riverside women's soccer team notched its second win of the season, topping Palomar College 3-1 on the road. Sophomore Alyssa Popov (Centennial HS) scored the go ahead goal in the 67th minute on an assist from Danielle Delong (ML King). Reosha Campbell (Arlington) opened the scoring in the 19th minute for the Tigers, assisted by Popov, but Palomar evened the match in the 33rd minute. In the 81st minute, Marissa Fritsch (Corona) tallied the final goal, assisted by Nicole Burk (Santiago) following a scramble in the box. Keeper Christina Beckerle had four saves for RCC (2-0). Palomar slips to 1-1. "We're still sorting some things out, but we're making progress," said coach Lynsey Jalayer. |

WOMEN'S SOCCER OPENS SEASON WITH A WIN SOCCER WOMEN (9/2/2009) |
Riverside women's soccer team opened the 2009 season with a 2-1 victory over host Mt. San Antonio College. The Tigers got goals from freshmen Reosha Campbell (Arlington HS) and Jessi Jaech (Canyon Springs).
Tied at 1-1 at halftime, Riverside scored in the 80th minute when Jaech launched a shot to the far post off a pass from Alyssa Popov (Centennial). Earlier, Campbell knocked in a rebound following a free kick to even the match headed into halftime.
Keeper Christina Beckerle made 9 stops and injury substitute Natalie Yanez had 3 for the Tigers (1-0). Mt. San Antonio drops to 0-2. "It was a very good effort by the girls, especially for the first match of the season," said coach Lynsey Jalayer.

2010 Tiger Backer Golf Tournament
The Riverside Community College Tiger Backer Association is accepting player applications for the 2010 Tiger Backer Classic Golf Tournament, which benefits the District's 19 athletic programs. The tournament is scheduled for Monday, April 5 at Canyon Crest Country Club.
The tournament is limited to the first 175 entry fees. Fees cover green fee, lunch, dinner and awards. It is a four-man scramble.
