MEN'S TENNIS QUALIFIES FOUR FOR REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TENNIS MEN (4/21/2012) |
Riverside City men's tennis team qualified four players - Jordan Gobatie, Ramazan Nureev, Theo Arruda, and Aliaksandr Pesniak - for the Southern California Regional Championships, which will be held May 3-5 at Irvine Valley College. The four, who will compete in singles play, will also team up for doubles play after Gobatie/Nureev and Arruda/Pesniak each advanced to the Round of 16 at the Orange Empire Conference Tournament, good for a spot in the regional tournament. The conference coaches stopped play after the quarterfinals. By advancing to the regional tournament, each player earned All-Orange Empire Conference honors.
Riverside will compete in the Ojai Tournament, prior to regionals, beginning on Thursday, April 26. The Tigers competing in the Ojai event are Gobatie, Arruda, Tavyn Libao and Colten Douglass. |

VENTURE ENDS MEN'S TENNIS RUN WITH 5-0 VICTORY TENNIS MEN (4/17/2012) |
Ventura ended Riverside City men's tennis team run as the Pirates (16-4) scored a 5-0 victory over the Tigers (14-7) in a first round of the Southern California Regional Team Tournament. Riverside's No. 1 player Jordan Gobatie was poised to win his single's match, but the match was stopped in the third set after Ventura won its fifth point, securing the victory. At the time, Gobatie was battling Ventura's Joanthan Lin, 3-6, 6-2, 2-1. The Pirates, however, swept the remaining single matches â all in straight sets. Riverside, runner-ups in the Orange Empire Conference, will now compete in the conference tournament beginning on Thursday, April 19 at Orange Coast College. The top eight single and double teams from the conference tournament advance to the Southern California Individual Regional Tournament. |

MEN'S TENNIS CONCLUDES REGULAR SEASON WITH A WIN TENNIS MEN (4/5/2012) |
Riverside City men's tennis concluded its regular season with a 9-0 non-conference victory over Paradise Valley from Arizona at the Fran Bushman Tennis Center. The Tigers (14-6), who finished second in the Orange Empire Conference race and figure to receive an at-large bid to the regional playoffs, dominated the match, winning all of the matches in straight sets. In singles play, Paradise Valley (1-11) managed to win just 14 games and 10 in doubles. |

MEN'S TENNIS FINISHES SECOND WITH WIN TENNIS MEN (4/3/2012) |
Riverside City men's tennis team finished play in the Orange Empire Conference with an 8-1 victory over Orange Coast at the Fran Bushman Tennis Center. The victory secured second place for the Tigers, who are ranked No. 8. The second-place finish should earn the Tigers an at-large bid for the Southern California Regional Tournament later this month. Riverside, which finished 8-2 in conference and 13-6 overall, concludes its regular-season on Thursday, April 5 when the Tigers play host to Paradise Valley of Arizona in a 2 pm non-conference match at the Bushman Tennis Center. Riverside will also begin play in the Orange Empire Conference Tournament on Thursday, April 19 at Orange Coast College. Team playoff pairings will be announced on Sunday, April 15. |

Riverside City men's tennis team knocked off San Diego Mesa, the current Pacific Coast Conference Champions, 6-3 in an non-conference match in San Diego. Tied 3-3 after singles, Riverside swept the three double matches to claim the victory. |

MEN'S TENNIS DROPS MATCH FOR CONFERENCE TITLE TENNIS MEN (3/29/2012) |
Riverside City men's tennis dropped a key Orange Empire Conference match to Saddleback, 5-4, in what probably determined the conference title. With the loss, Riverside fell to 7-2 in conference and 11-6 overall. Meanwhile, Saddleback improved to 8-1 in conference and 14-5 overall. Riverside and Saddleback each have one conference match remaining, next Tuesday, April 3 vs. Orange Coast at the Fran Bushman Tennis Center. Tigers will play a non-conference match tomorrow, Friday, March 30 against San Diego Mesa in San Diego. In the loss to Saddleback, Riverside and Gauchos split singles, taking the match into doubles. After the Tigers won No. 1 doubles, Saddleback battled winning the final two doubles matches for the win. |

Riverside City men's tennis team won its fifth consecutive match with its 8-1 victory over Fullerton at the Fran Bushman Tennis Center. The Tigers, who have two remaining conference matches, can move into a tie for the conference title on Thursday, March 29 when Riverside hosts Saddleback in a 2 pm match. In the win over Fullerton, Riverside rolled, winning all six single matches while not dropping a set. Fullerton's lone point came at No. 1 doubles. |

Riverside City men's tennis team, ranked No. 8 in Southern California, need one win in doubles to beat back Irvine Valley, and Jordan Gobatie (Riverside Poly) and Ramazan Mares (Russia) came through at No. 1 doubles, scoring an 8-1 victory over the Lasers' Lance Dugan and Azamat Parchier to give the Tigers (10-5, 6-1) a 5-4 win in an Orange Empire Conference match in Irvine.
The win keeps Riverside in the hunt for the conference title. The Tigers remain a match behind front-running Saddleback. Riverside, which had won four consecutive matches and spent the last three weeks on the road, returns home on Tuesday, March 27 for a 2 pm match with Fullerton at the Fran Bushman Tennis Center. |

With the win, Riverside remains a match behind the Gauchos with four matches remaining in the conference schedule. BRITT, MERRIWEATHER SELECTED TO STATE ALL-ACADEMIC TRACK TEAM TENNIS MEN (3/15/2012) |
Riverside City sophomore William Britt and Yusef Merriweather were two of 19 student-athletes from around the state who were selected to the California All-Academic Track Team. Both athletes had a 3.0 GPA or higher. Britt and Merriweather competed in last year's state meet and scored in the meet for the Tigers.

Riverside City men's tennis team won five of six single matches as the Tigers (8-5) dismantled Mt. San Antonio (1-9), 8-1, in a non-conference tennis match in Walnut, CA. The Tigers dominated the match, winning the first five single matches in straight sets. No. 6 singles match was the best match of the day as Riverside's Colten Douglass and Mt. San Antonio's Michael Witten slugged it out, before Witter pulled out a 3-6, 6-2, 10-4 victory. It was the Mounties' only point.
Riverside returns to Orange Empire Conference play on Tuesday when the Tigers travel to Cypress for a 2 pm match. |

Riverside City men's tennis team bounced back for its first Orange Empire Conference loss with a 9-0 victory over Orange Coast in Costa Mesa. But it wasn't easy. Riverside (7-5, 4-1) need three sets to win four of the six single matches and each of the double matches were decided by two games. The Tigers finish the first round of conference competition in second place, one win behind conference-leader Saddleback. Riverside will take a break from conference play on Thursday, March 15 when the Tigers travel to Walnut, CA to take on Mt. San Antonio. |

Riverside City men's tennis team won its third consecutive Orange Empire Conference match with a 9-0 victory over host Fullerton. The Tigers set-up a showdown with Saddleback on Thursday, March 8 on the road for the out-right conference lead. Fullerton (0-4, 0-3) put little resistance for the Tigers (6-4) as Riverside rolled through singles, losing just nine games and then four games in doubles. |

Riverside City men's tennis team held off Irvine Valley 5-4 in an Orange Empire Conference match at the Fran Bushman Tennis Center. The Tigers got the win thanks to taking four of the six single matches. The Lasers rallied winning No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, but Riverside's Jordan Gobatie and Ramazan Nureev held off Lance Dugan and Michael Sharp to win the No. 1 doubles match, 8-4, and with it the victory. Riverside (5-4, 2-0) travels to Fullerton on Tuesday, March 6 for a 2 pm conference match. |

Riverside City men's tennis team evened its record at 3-3 with a 7-2 victory over host San Diego City. The Tigers settled the match early by winning five of the six single matches âÂall in straight sets. Riverside capped it off by taking No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The Tigers will take an eight-day break from competition, returning to action o February 23 with a match at Mt. San Jacinto at 2 pm. |

MEN'S TENNIS UPENDS PALOMAR, 8-1 TENNIS MEN (2/10/2012) |
Riverside City men's tennis team took five of six single matches as the Tigers upended Palomar, 8-1, in a non-conference match at the Fran Bushman Tennis Center. Three of the six single matches went three sets, including Jordan Gobatie's match at No. 1 Gobatie dropped the first set 3-6, but rallied to win the match with 6-3, 6-2 set wins. Riverside's Josh Stevenson also won a three-set match at No. 6 (6-2, 5-7, 6-3).
With the win, Riverside, which has won back-to-back matches, improves to 2-2. Palomar of the Pacific Coast Conference falls to 1-1. Riverside travels across town to take on UC Riverside tomorrow, Saturday, February 11 at 2:30 pm.

Riverside City men's tennis team got its first win of the 2012 season as the Tigers rolled to a 9-0 victory over Victor Valley in a non-conference match the Fran Bushman Tennis Center. Riverside dominated the match, losing just 14 games in the six singles and seven games in doubles. Riverside No. 1 player Jordan Gobatie won in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 over Christian Young in a highlight of the match. Riverside (1-2) will host Palomar tomorrow, Friday, February 10 at 2 pm. |

Riverside City men's tennis team dropped it second consecutive non-conference match to the defending state champions, College of the Desert, 7-2. Riverside City took the first point of the match when No. 1 singles player Jordan Gobatie scores a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Sergio Chip. Unfortunately, it was all Desert at that as the Roadrunners won No. 2, 3, 4 and 5 singles before RIverside City's Alex Mares scored a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles. Desert swept the three doubles matches to close out the match.
Riverside travels to San Diego on Tuesday, February 7 at 2 pm to take on San Diego Mesa, the defending Pacific Coast Conference Champions. |

MEN'S TENNIS OPENS SEASON WITH A 6-3 LOSS TENNIS MEN (1/31/2012) |
Riverside City men's tennis team opened the 2012 season with a 6-3 non-conference setback at the hands of host Los Angeles Pierce. The Tigers host defending state champions College of the Desert at Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Thursday, February 2 at 2 pm. Desert opens the season having won 14 state titles and 13 of the last 20 titles. Against Los Angeles Pierce, Riverside City freshman Jordan Gobatie (Riverside Poly HS) scored the first point of the match as he swept Thales Castro, 6-2, 6-2. However, it would be down hill for the Tigers as they managed just one more point in singles â at No. 4 singles where Aliaksandr Pesniak outlasted Richard Carabona in three sets, 6-7 (4), 6-2, 6-1. |

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT AND VIEWPOINTS LAUNCHES TIGER TV GENERAL NEWS (9/15/2011)

The Riverside athletic department, in conjunction with Viewpionts, the District's on-campus newspaper, has launched Tiger TV.
James Martinez, Matt Dziak and Javier Cabrera, editor in chief of Viewpoints, will cover Tiger athletics from the sidelines to the locker room, giving Tiger fans an inside look at the week's happenings.
There will be post-game interviews as well as a weekly wrap up and highlights from all 19 athletic teams during the 2011-12 season.
"We're excited about Tiger TV," said Athletic Director Barry Meier. "It will be another way for us to keep the community involved in the 19 athletic programs and the student-athletes who work so hard - in the classroom and on the field.
"Viewpoints is a top-notch college newspapers and (associate professor of Journalism) Allan Lovelace does a tremendous job working with his students to put them in a position to pull off a project like this. In the end, this is a win-win, a win for our student-athletes and win for the students wanting a career in broadcast journalism." |

Community Education Football Offense/Defense Class
Riverside City's Kinesiology Department will be offering a spring Community Education class for Football Fundamentals (KIN-A60/A61 in the spring schedule or the college catalogue). The course provides the student an opportunity to learn general and specific individual defensive and offensive football fundamental techniques and strategies, emphasizing active participation in the game of football. The community education class is open to all students. Participants can sign-up on the Community Education website or in person the first day of class, which is Tuesday, April 3. The Community Education class will take place from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays on the football practice field. Students should come in proper football attire, which includes shorts and cleats. Cost is $36, please bring exact change. This is a noncredit class. Instructor is Tom Craft. |

Riverside City's Kinesiology Department will be offering a spring Community Education class for Out of Season Basketball Conditioning Class (KIN-A95 in the spring schedule or the college catalogue). The course applies advanced conditioning and weight training principles for an out-of-season training program for varsity sport competition. The community education class is open to all students. Participants can sign-up on the Community Education website or in person the first day of class, which is Tuesday, April 17. The Community Education class will take place from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm in Wheelock Gym, on Monday through Friday with the end date being June 7.
