WOMEN'S TENNIS SENDS TWO DOUBLE TEAMS AND TWO SINGLE PLAYERS TO REGIONALS

TENNIS WOMEN (4/21/2012)


Riverside City women's tennis team had two double teams and two single players advance from the Orange Empire Conference Tournament to the Southern California Regional Tournament next month. The Tigers, who compete this week in the Ojai Tournament, saw Camille Requiestas and Brooke Vorhees advance in singles and the double teams of Vorhees/AJ Borja and Requiestas/Natalie Tomlin qualify. By advancing to the regional finals each student-athlete also earned All-Orange Empire Conference honors. Riverside head coach Nikki Bonzoumet, who coached the Tigers to the conference title, was named Coach of the Year. Saddleback's Jeannette Losaria was selected as the conference player of the year.


SANTA BARBARA DOWNS RIVERSIDE IN REGIONAL TOURNAMENT

Riverside City women's tennis team dropped its Southern California Regional Tournament match 5-1 to Santa Barbara at the Fran Bushman Tennis Center. The loss ends the Tigers' team competition season. Riverside finishes the season with a 16-2 record. Riverside managed just a point - at No. 5 singles - when Alecs Comahig scored a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Hannah Erickson. Riverside season will continue with the Orange Empire Conference Tournament. Individual qualifiers from the conference tournament will advance to the regional championship tournament and then eventually the state tournament.

WOMEN'S TENNIS CAPTURES CONFERENCE TITLE WITH WIN OVER ORANGE COAST

TENNIS WOMEN (4/3/2012)


Riverside City women's tennis team captured the Orange Empire Conference title after securing an 7-2 victory over Orange Coast in Costa Mesa. The victory moved the Tigers, ranked No. 3, to 10-0 in conference and 16-1 overall. Riverside has won its last 13 matches, with its' only loss coming to Palomar back on February 10. The conference title is the second for a Nikki Bonzoumet led team. She coached the 2000 team to the conference title in her first season. The 16 wins ties the 2000 team for the most wins in a season. Riverside advances to the Southern California Regional Tournament. Pairings will be announced on Sunday, April 15. In the meantime, the Tigers will compete in the conference tournament, which is scheduled for Thursday, April 19 at Fullerton College.

WOMEN'S TENNIS CLINCHES SHARE OF CONFERENCE TITLE AFTER 12TH CONSECUTIVE WIN

Riverside City women's tennis team clinched a share of the Orange Empire Conference title with an 8-1 victory over Saddleback. The Tigers (15-1, 9-0) can wrap up the title with a victory over second-place Orange Coast on Tuesday, April 3 in Costa Mesa. After a loss at No. 1 singles, Riverside dominated the match, winning the final eight matches to claim the win.

WOMEN'S TENNIS CLOSES IN ON CONFERENCE TITLE WITH 11TH STRAIGHT WIN

Riverside City women's tennis team moved closer to claiming the conference title after a 7-2 victory over host Fullerton. With two conference matches remaining, Riverside can clinch a tie for the conference title with a victory over Saddleback on Thursday in Mission Viejo and then secure the title with a victory over second-place Orange Coast on Tuesday, April 3 in Costa Mesa. In the Tigers' 11 victories, Riverside has dropped just 14 points. In the win over Fullerton, the Hornets managed to win No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles, but other than that it was all Riverside.

WOMEN'S TENNIS' WIN STREAK REACHES 10

Riverside City women's tennis team, ranked No. 3 in Southern California, won its 10 consecutive match with a 9-0 rout of Irvine Valley in an Orange Empire Conference match at the Fran Bushman Tennis Center. Riverside (13-1, 7-0), which remained unbeaten in conference play, will finish its season on the road after playing its last six matches at home. The Tigers venture to Fullerton on Tuesday, March 27 for a 2pm match. In the win over Irvine Valley, Riverside dominated the match, dropping just 22 games in singles play and 7 in doubles.

WOMEN'S TENNIS RUNS WIN STREAK TO NINE

Riverside City women's tennis team, which begins the second half of the conference schedule ranked No. 3 in Southern California, won its ninth straight match after the Tigers (12-1, 6-0) rolled to a 7-2 victory over Cypress (2-4) in an Orange Empire Conference match at the Fran Bushman Tennis Center. Riverside, who hosts Irvine Valley on Thursday, March 22 at 2 pm, swept singles play as the Tigers settled the outcome early in the match.

WOMEN'S TENNIS TAKES CONFERENCE LEAD

Riverside City women's tennis team took sole possession of first place in the Orange Empire Conference with a 7-2 victory over previous undefeated Orange Coast at the Fran Bushman Tennis Center. Orange Coast (6-2 overall) and Riverside (11-1) each came into the match with 4-0 conference records. The Tigers, who have a bye Thursday before resuming conference competition on Tuesday, March 20 with a home match against Cypress, lost one point in singles (No. 3) and the No. 1 doubles match.

WIN STREAK REACHES SEVEN FOR WOMEN'S TENNIS

Riverside City women's tennis team ran its unbeaten streak to seven matches with a 8-1 victory over Saddleback in an Orange Empire Conference match at the Fran Bushman Tennis Center. With one conference match remaining in the first round, the Tigers find themselves undefeated at 4-0 and 10-1 overall. Riverside finishes the first round against Orange Coast on Tuesday, March 13 at 2 pm at the Fran Bushman Tennis Center. Against Saddleback, Riverside dropped the opening No. 1 singles match, but rebounded to run the table taking the final eight matches.

Riverside City women's tennis ran its win streak to six matches after the Tigers rallied for a 7-2 victory over Fullerton (7-3, 2-2) in an Orange Empire Conference match at the Fran Bushman Tennis Center. Riverside (9-1, 3-0) dropped the first two single matches, but rallied, sweeping the final seven matches. Riverside hosts Saddleback on Thursday, march 8 at 2 pm at the Fran Bushman Tennis Center.

WOMEN'S TENNIS WINS FIFTH STRAIGHT, 8-1 OVER IRVINE VALLEY

Riverside City women's tennis team won its fifth straight match, 8-1 over Irvine Valley in an Orange Empire Conference match on the road in Irvine. Riverside dominated the match, sweeping singles and then winning No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. With the win, Riverside improves to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in Orange Empire Conference competition. The Tigers host Fullerton on Tuesday, March 6 at 2 pm at the Fran Bushman Tennis Center.

Riverside City women's tennis team won its fourth straight match as the Tigers opened Orange Empire Conference competition with an 8-1 victory over host Cypress. The Tigers swept the six single matches. Cypress (1-1, 2-4) lone point came at No. 2 doubles. Otherwise, it was all Riverside which improved to 7-1 on the season. Riverside travels to Irvine on Thursday, March 1 for a 2 pm match against Irvine Valley.

WOMEN'S TENNIS ACES MT. SAN JACINTO

TENNIS WOMEN (2/23/2012)


Riverside City women's tennis team posted an 9-0 non-conference victory over Mt. San Jacinto at the Fran Bushman Tennis Center. The Tigers (6-1) were aided by Mt. San Jacinto (0-4) having to forfeit No. 6 singles and No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Riverside opens Orange Empire Conference play on Tuesday, February 28 when the Tigers travel to Cypress for a 2 pm match.

WOMEN'S TENNIS IMPROVES TO 5-1 WITH WIN OVER GLENDALE

Riverside City women's tennis team ran its 2012 record to 5-1 after a 6-3 defeat of Glendale at the Fran Bushman Tennis Center. The Tigers will get a week off before returning its season on Thursday, February 23 at 2 pm at the FBTC. Against Glendale, Riverside lost the first two single matches, but stormed back, winning the final four single matches to take a 4-2 lead after singles. After Glendale (1-3) got within a point with a win at No. 1 doubles, Riverside put the match away with a win at No. 2 doubles.

WOMEN'S TENNIS ACES ANTELOPE VALLEY, 9-0

TENNIS WOMEN (2/14/2012)


Riverside City women's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 non-conference victory over Antelope Valley at the Fran Bushman Tennis Center. The Tigers, who improved to 4-1, dominated the match, losing just four games in six single matches. In doubles, Riverside City was equally impressive, losing only three games. Riverside will host Glendale in a non-conference match on Thursday, February 16 at 2 pm.

WOMEN'S TENNIS FALLS SHORT IN LOSS TO PALOMAR

TENNIS WOMEN (2/10/2012)


Needing to sweep doubles to upset Palomar, Riverside City women's tennis team fell a point short as the Comets held on at No. 2 doubles, claiming a 5-4 non-conference win over the Tigers at the Fran Bushman Tennis Center. Palomar (2-0) won four of the six single matches and after Riverside claimed No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to tie the match, the Comets Liesl Galleisky and Pamela Cademas held off Camille Requiestas and Alecs Comahig, 8-4, at No. 2 to wrap-up the match.

Riverside, which remains home to face Antelope Valley on Tuesday, February 14 at 2 pm, falls to 3-1 on the season. Palomar improves to 2-0.

WOMEN'S TENNIS WINS THIRD STRAIGHT MATCH

Riverside City women's tennis team won its third straight match today, downing visiting Fresno City, 9-0, at the Fran Bushman Tennis Center. Through the matches Riverside has yet to surrender a point. The Tigers will put that streak on the line again tomorrow (February 7) when Riverside hosts Glendale at 2 pm.

Against Fresno City, Riverside lost just one set †at No. 1 singles, but sophomore Brooke Vorhees bounced back by rolling to a 6-1 third-set win to take the match and the point. Other than that it was all Riverside as the Tigers swept singles, dropping just 11 games, In doubles, Riverside was pushed at No. 1 doubles but came away with the win.

WOMEN'S TENNIS OPENS WITH TWO WINS

Riverside City women's tennis team opened the 2012 season with back-to-back 9-0 victories. On Thursday, Riverside City downed Victor Valley, which was playing with just four players, and then rolled past Imperial Valley as the Tigers lost just five games in singles and 7 in doubles. Riverside remains home to take Fresno City at 2 pm on Monday, February 6.

The Riverside athletic department, in conjunction with Viewpionts, the District's on-campus newspaper, has launched Tiger TV.

James Martinez, Matt Dziak and Javier Cabrera, editor in chief of Viewpoints, will cover Tiger athletics from the sidelines to the locker room, giving Tiger fans an inside look at the week's happenings.

There will be post-game interviews as well as a weekly wrap up and highlights from all 19 athletic teams during the 2011-12 season.

"We're excited about Tiger TV," said Athletic Director Barry Meier. "It will be another way for us to keep the community involved in the 19 athletic programs and the student-athletes who work so hard - in the classroom and on the field.

"Viewpoints is a top-notch college newspapers and (associate professor of Journalism) Allan Lovelace does a tremendous job working with his students to put them in a position to pull off a project like this. In the end, this is a win-win, a win for our student-athletes and win for the students wanting a career in broadcast journalism."

Community Education Football Offense/Defense Class

Riverside City's Kinesiology Department will be offering a spring Community Education class for Football Fundamentals (KIN-A60/A61 in the spring schedule or the college catalogue). The course provides the student an opportunity to learn general and specific individual defensive and offensive football fundamental techniques and strategies, emphasizing active participation in the game of football. The community education class is open to all students. Participants can sign-up on the Community Education website or in person the first day of class, which is Tuesday, April 3. The Community Education class will take place from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays on the football practice field. Students should come in proper football attire, which includes shorts and cleats. Cost is $36, please bring exact change. This is a noncredit class. Instructor is Tom Craft.

Community Education Out of Season (Basketball) Conditioning Class

Riverside City's Kinesiology Department will be offering a spring Community Education class for Out of Season Basketball Conditioning Class (KIN-A95 in the spring schedule or the college catalogue). The course applies advanced conditioning and weight training principles for an out-of-season training program for varsity sport competition. The community education class is open to all students. Participants can sign-up on the Community Education website or in person the first day of class, which is Tuesday, April 17. The Community Education class will take place from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm in Wheelock Gym, on Monday through Friday with the end date being June 7. Students should come in proper attire, which includes gym shoes. Cost is $36, please bring exact change in you plan on registering in person. This is a noncredit class. Instructor is Joshua Thomas.

Riverside City's Kinesiology Department will be offering a spring Community Education class for Men's Soccer (KIN-A64 in the spring schedule or the college catalogue). This course is designed to introduce students to the rules, basic skills, and offensive/defensive strategy in soccer Emphasis will be placed on improving individual skills and applying these skills to game situations Subsequent enrollment in additional semesters will
provide the student an opportunity for added skill competency
development. Participants can sign-up on the Community Education website or in person the first day of class, which is Tuesday, July 3. The Community Education class will take place from 8 am to 10 am at the Norco College Soccer Stadium and meet Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (ending date is August 14, will be no class on Wednesday, July 4).
