MEN'S WATER POLO DROPS REGULAR-SEASON FINAL

WATERPOLO MEN (10/26/2011)

Riverside men's water polo team dropped its regular-season final match as the Tigers fell to Orange Coast, 12-9, in an Orange Empire Conference match at the Riverside City College Aquatic Center.

With the loss, Riverside has lost six of their last seven matches headed into the Orange Empire Conference Tournament next week. The Tigers, who finished 3-2 in conference play, will be the No. 3 seed for the conference tournament, which will be hosted by Riverside City College. Riverside will play on Friday, November 4 at 9 am against No. 6 seed Santa Ana.

Against Orange Coast, which will be the No. 2 seed, Riverside got three goals and two assists from sophomore Trent Virgil. He also drew four ejections and had two steals.

Riverside salvaged a tough weekend with a sudden death goal against Cerritos in the Tigers final match of the Golden West Tournament. The goal gave Riverside its only win of the weekend, 13-12, over Cerritos.

Riverside dropped its three other matches, losing to Diablo Valley, 16-11, Grossmont, 15-9, and Long Beach City, 19-7.

Sophomore Trent Virgil had a solid weekend, scoring 11 goals in the four matches, including 5 against Cerritos. Jordan Donnelly added 7.

GOLDEN WEST DOWNS RIVERSIDE, 17-13

WATERPOLO MEN (10/19/2011)

Golden West jumped out to a 10-6 halftime lead and rode it to a 17-13 victory over Riverside in an Orange Empire Conference match in Huntington Beach.

Golden West, the defending conference and state runner-ups in 2010, secured the conference's No. 1 seed headed into the conference tournament, which Riverside will host, with the victory.

Riverside got five goals from Trent Virgil and three from Jordan Donnelly, but it wasn't nearly enough offense to keep up with the Rustlers who have been held until 10 goals just three times this season - twice being by four-year universities.

Riverside will return to Huntington Beach this weekend for the Golden West Tournament.
