FASTPITCH, TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS TO BE BROADCASTED ON-LINE

FASTPITCH WOMEN (5/16/2012)

The CCCAA announced today that the 2012 softball and track championships will be broadcasted on-line.

The softball championship tournament, which is being held in Bakersfield and will feature the Riverside Tigers, can be viewed by clicking here.

To view the state track finals, which begin on Friday at Cerritos College in Norwalk, CA, please click here. Riverside men's track and field team will be trying to win its fourth state title in the last five years.

RIVERSIDE OPENS STATE TOURNAMENT AGAINST COLLEGE OF THE SISKIYOUS

FASTPITCH WOMEN (5/14/2012)

Riverside City fastpitch team will open the CCCAA State Championship Tournament on Friday, May 18 at 5:30 pm when the Tigers (33-13) take on the north's top-seed College of the Siskiyous (40-2). The Riverside-Siskiyous game will be followed by the Sierra (41-6)-Cypress (41-4) game at 8 pm. Cypress is the defending state champions.

The tournament, which is double-elimination, is being held at Bakersfield College, and concludes on Sunday, May 20. Ticket prices are $8.00 General Admission (Daily), $5.00 for identified students, faculty, staff, senior citizens age 60 and over, and children less than 12 years of age. (Daily) or $18.00 for a Tournament Pass .

FASTPITCH ADVANCES TO STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT

FASTPITCH WOMEN (5/13/2012)

For just the second time in Riverside City history, the Tigers' fastpitch program will participate in the CCCAA State Championship Tournament after rallying to win the winner-take-all-game in Valencia, CA. After dropping the opening game 8-0 to host College of the Canyons, Riverside rallied from an early 2-0 deficit to take a 5-3 win in the winner-take-all-game.

Riverside, the second-place team from the Orange Empire Conference, will be joined at the state tournament in Bakersfield, CA by Cypress, the defending state champions and the champions of the Orange Empire Conference, and from Northern California, College of the Siskiyous and Sierra. Pairings for the four-team, double-elimination tournament will be announced on Monday, May 14.

MEN'S TRACK WINS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TITLE, EYE STATE TITLE

TRACK AND FIELD MEN (5/12/2012)

Riverside City men's track and field team won the Southern California Championship after the Tigers scored a school-record 200.33 points, easily out-distancing Mt. San Antonio, which finished with 116 points. Cerritos was third with just 60 points.

The Tigers, who will be trying to win their fourth state championship in the last five years, had a state qualifier in 18 of the 21 events. Riverside will compete in the state championship meet this coming Friday and Saturday, May 18-19 at Cerritos College in Norwalk, CA. The top four runners and ninth fastest time from Southern and Northern California advance to the finals. In field events, the top 12 advance in the throw events with the top nine advancing in the high jump and the pole vault.

WOMEN'S TRACK FOURTH AT REGIONAL, TWO ATHLETES WIN REGIONAL TITLES

TRACK AND FIELD WOMEN (5/12/2012)

Riverside City women's track and field team had two athletes win regional titles, while the team finished fourth overall in the team race. The Tigers finished with 50 points, while Cerritos, which will host the state championship meet beginning on Friday, May 19, won the regional title with 75 points. Glendale was second with 70 points, with Antelope Valley edging Riverside with 55 points.

Two athletes - pole vaulter Amy Hop and hammer thrower Jessika Byrd - won regional titles. Hop cleared 12-feet, 4 1/2 inches in winning the title. Meanwhile, Byrd, who is in her first year of throwing the hammer, managed a throw of 174-9 in winning the title. Teammate Fatima Vegara, who finished sixth in the shot put (39-10 3/4) and seventh in the hammer (172-4), will compete at the state cham....More

EL CAMINO ELIMINATES RIVERSIDE AS TIGERS ALLOW 5 UNEARNED RUNS AND LEAVE 15 RUNNERS ON BASE

GLENDORA Unable to overcome a 5-0 deficit, thanks to five unearned runs, coupled with leaving 15 Tiger runners on base, the visiting Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers saw their season come to an end Saturday afternoon with a 6-4 loss in a Southern California Super Regional Tournament elimination game at Citrus College.

No. 8-seed El Camino (30-10), originally the No. 9 seed, parlayed a pair of errors into three runs in the bottom of the second and two more in the third to post a 5-0 lead. RCC cut the deficit to 5-2 with two in the fifth and crept to within 6-4 in the eighth, but The Tigers left 15 runners on base, and would have left more (or scored more) if not for three double plays turned by the Warriors.

FASTPITCH WITHIN ONE WIN OF ADVANCING TO THE STATE TOURNAMENT

Riverside City's fastpitch team advanced to the finals of its Southern California Regional Tournament with a 5-2 victory over Southwestern. The Tigers, who are trying to make the state finals for just the second time in the program's history, will face College of the Canyons, the host for the four-team, double-elimination tournament. Canyons advanced to the finals after knocking off Southwestern, which on Friday had beaten Canyons in the tournament's first game.

Riverside (32-13) will need to win one game on Sunday to advance to the CCCAA Championship tournament, which will be held in Bakersfield, CA next weekend. Two years ago, the Tigers advanced to the state finals, but were eliminated in straight games. Should Riverside lose the first game tomorrow, another game will be played 3....More

JONES LEADS OFF GAME WITH HR, BUT HOST RIO HONDO ROLLS TO 9-2 WIN OVER TIGERS

WHITTIER Jackson Jones led off the game with his first home run of the season, but the hosts, the Rio Hondo College (RHC) Roadrunners answered with a pair of round trippers and tamed the visiting Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers, 9-2, in a Southern California Super Regional Tournament game at RHC.

Rio Hondo (36-3), the No. 2 seed in the regional by virtue of winning the Foothill Conference championship with a 24-0 record, won its 31st consecutive game. If your wondering, the state record for consecutive victories is 60, set by Cerritos College (1965-67).

In todayyâ€s opening game of the tournament, the No. 3-seeded Santa Ana College Dons (32-7) topped the No. 6-seeded (originally No. 9) El Camino College Warriors (29-10), 9-3.

CRAWLEY DRIVES RIVERSIDE PAST SADDLEBACK IN REGIONAL TOURNEY

Riverside City freshman first baseman Chelsea Crawley went 3 for 3 with 4 RBI's as the Tigers opened the Super Regional Tournament with a 12-4 rout of Saddleback at College of Canyons in Valencia, CA. Crawley doubled twice and hit a three-run home run to highlight the Tigers' nine-run third inning.

Riverside, which advances to the regional semifinal game against Southwestern, which upset No. 1 seed Canyons, 10-7, at 2 pm. Saddleback, a member of the Orange Empire Conference, will meet Canyons in an elimination game at noon.

Riverside (30-13) mustered 11 hits in the game, which was called after five and half innings due to the run rule. Of the Tigers' 11 hits, five were for extra bases. Riverside also benefited from four Saddleback errors. The Tigers - once again - got a stel....More

ALMQUIST SELECTED THE ORANGE EMPIRE CONFERENCE WOMEN'S COACH OF THE YEAR

Orange Empire Conference Commission John Keever announced today that Riverside City women's water polo and swim coach Dave Almquist has been selected as the conference's women coach of the year. Almquist led the Tigers to the conference title in women's water polo and a second-place finish in women's swimming. His 2011 water polo team finished the season 32-1 and won the CCCAA State Championship. His women's swim team finished second to Orange Coast, the defending conference and state champions.

The Orange Empire Conference fastpitch softball coaches selected Cypress College sophomore shortstop Jessica Reichner as its conference player of the year and Riverside City College sophomore pitcher Nichole Zink as the pitcher of the year for the 2012 season.

Zink (Roosevelt High School), who was the conference pitcher of the year as a freshman, was 14-2 on the mound in conference play for the Tigers with a 1.81 ERA as she led Riverside to a conference runner-up finish. She was one of only four pitchers in the conference to throw over 100 innings this year, tossing 109 innings as she led the conference in wins (14) and strikeouts (124). Opponents only batted .168 against Zink, who will transfer to Long Beach State University in the fall, as she limited those opponents to 65 hits, ....More

JONES' THREE HITS LEADS 14-HIT ATTACK AS RIVERSIDE ROARS BACK WITH 9-5 HOME OEC WIN OVER FULLERTON

Spotting the visitors an early lead, the host Riverside City College (RCC) Tigers roared back to post a 9-5 Orange Empire Conference (OEC) home win over the visiting Fullerton College (FC) Hornets in a rare Friday afternoon game at the Evans Sports Complex.

Riverside (13-13, 8-5 OEC) climbed back to the .500 mark after it spotted Fullerton a 3-0 first-inning lead. The Tigers responded with two runs in the second and four scores in the fifth to take the lead for good at 6-4 when RCC received consecutive RBI-singles freshman 1B Daniel Arellano (Corona / Centennial HS), freshman LF Jackson Jones (Hemet / West Valley HS) and sophomore C Brad Burcroff (Redlands / East Valley HS). Jones led a 14-hit Tiger attack with three hits in five at-bats, while five other Tigers had two hits apiece.....More
