WOMEN'S WATER POLO OPENS STATE FINALS WITH A WIN

WATERPOLO WOMEN (11/19/2009)

Riverside women's water polo team opened the 2009 California Community Colleges Athletic Association State Championship with a 14-3 rout of Foothill College, the north's No. 3 seed.

Riverside, the south's top seed, will take on Golden West, the south No. 3 seed and the only team to beat them this season, in another pool-play match on Friday (Nov. 20) at 3 p.m. The championship is being held at Golden West College in Huntington Beach. The tournament concludes on Saturday, Nov. 21.

In the win over Foothill, Riverside held the Owls to one first-half goal behind All-American goalie Jayme Pekarske. Meanwhile, the Tiger offense was roaring, scoring two goals in the first quarter and adding two more in the second quarter. Riverside, winners of its last eight matches, put the match ....More

RIVERSIDE EARNS PLAYOFF, TRAVELS TO SANTA MONICA

Riverside women's soccer team has been seeded 10th for the Southern California tournament and will travel to Santa Monica on Saturday, November 21, to take on the Corsairs. Kickoff will be 6 p.m. at their soccer field on campus (1900 Pico Blvd).

Riverside was one of five Orange Empire Conference teams to make the playoffs. Santiago Canyon, the conference champions, is seeded No. 1 and will play Santa Ana, the No. 16 team and a member of the conference. Cypress also made the playoffs and is seeded No. 5 and will face Orange Coast, No. 12, and another participate in the OEC.

Riverside, which finished third in the conference race, takes a 11-3-6 record into the playoffs, just its second appearance in the post-season. Meanwhile, Santa Monica is 12-3-6 on the season after finishin....More

CYPRESS SNAPS RIVERSIDE'S WIN STREAK

VOLLEYBALL WOMEN (11/18/2009)

Cypress snapped Riverside's two-match win streak as the Chargers scored a 25-15, 25-19, 25-18 Orange Empire Conference victory over the Tigers. The match was the final regular-season match, but Riverside figures to receive an at-large bid for the Southern California Regional tournament.

Riverside finished fourth in the Orange Empire Conference, its best finish since the 2001 season when the Tigers finished tied for fourth.

In the loss to Cypress, Riverside got 12 kills from freshman Amanda Vialpando and 5 from Savannah Breazile and Lindsey Sappington.

FOOTBALL CLOSES SEASON WITH A 24-14 LOSS TO CITRUS

FOOTBALL MEN (11/14/2009)

Citrus quarterback Byron Ingram passed for 224 and 4 touchdowns, while running back Isaac Tucker carried the ball 16 times for 96 yards and caught one pass for 33 yards and a score as the Owls handed Riverside a 24-14 loss in a Central Division game.

The loss was the eight straight for Riverside, which was hit hard by injuries this season. The Tigers finished 1-9 overall and winless in division play.

Riverside jumped out to a 13-0 lead on a touchdown pass and a 38-yard touchdown run by Tommy Curry, but Citrus (2-4, 3-7) rallied on two Ingram touchdown passes. Riverside retook the lead with 3:11 left in the third quarter as Chase Griswold connected on a 39-yard field goal for a 16-14 lead.

MEN'S WATER POLO ADVANCES TO STATE FINALS

WATERPOLO MEN (11/14/2009)

Riverside men's water polo team advanced to the California Colleges Athletic Association State Championship after finishing third at the Southern California Regional Tournament this past weekend at Pasadena College. The state finals will be held at Golden West College in Huntington Beach beginning on Thursday, November 19th.

Riverside won two of its three matches in the regional tournament to advance to the state finals. The Tigers opened the tournament with a 12-10 win over Grossmont, a team that beaten the Tigers by five goals back in September. Riverside then took on state-favorite Golden West in a semifinal match. The Rustlers dominated the match, opening a 8-2 halftime lead and cruising to a 16-6 victory. RIVERSIDE CLOSES OUT SEASON WITH A VICTORY

SOCCER MEN (11/13/2009)

Riverside men's soccer team closed out the 2009 regular season with a 4-0 victory over Orange Coast in an Orange Empire Conference match.

Riverside figures to be a bubble team when the conference representatives meet to determine the field for the Southern California Playoffs. In soccer, only the conference champion is an automatic qualifier. The remainder of the field is determined through a power-ranking system.

In the over over Orange Coast, Riverside got three goals from Martin Medina and another from Robert Tornel. Luis Solorio assisted on two of the goals, with Tornel and Medina also recording assists.

WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS IN SEASON FINALE, AWAITS PLAYOFF BID

Riverside fell 5-1 to Santiago Canyon, the state's No. 1 ranked team, in both team's Orange Empire Conference finale. But despite the loss, Riverside figures to be a strong candidate for the post season. In soccer, only the conference champion is assured a post-season bid. After that the coaches' association uses a complicated power-ranking system to determine the top remaining teams.

The regional tournaments will feature the top 16 teams in the south and the top 16 in the north, with the top four from each regional meeting for the state championship.

In the loss to Santiago Canyon (15-0-1, 18-0-2), Riverside (8-3-5, 11-3-6) fell behind 2-0 at halftime and 4-0 midway through the second half when Reosha Campbell scored.

Riverside Community College District broke ground on its new multi-million dollar aquatic center on Thursday, Nov. 5. The project, a joint project between the district, Riverside County (Supervisors Bob Buster and John Tavaglione),the City of Riverside, and the RCCD Foundation is expected to be completed by January of 2011. The state-of-the-art facility will house the District's aquatic programs (water polo and swimming) and serve community swim, diving and other aquatic programs.

The District's current swim facility, Cutter Pool, isn't capable of hosting college and outside competitions or even practices. The new aquatic center will be 65-meters long and have a floating bulk ....More

RIVERSIDE TO HOST COMMUNITY TENNIS TOURNAMENT

TENNIS MEN (10/29/2009)

Riverside men's and women's tennis team will host a Holiday Tennis Tournament on December 11 through the 13. The tournament is open to players 13 years and up.

High school and college participants can not wear any school identifying clothing during the tournament. Tournament will be held at the Fran Bushman Tennis Center, which is located on the District's Riverside City Campus.

The cost is $25 for singles and $30 for doubles. Entry deadline is Friday, December 4th. You can download the entry form, by clicking on Stat Tab, then General Info and then select Holiday Tournament Flier.
