Welcome to the 2007-2008 Riverside Community College academic and
athletic school year.
I'm
honored to be your incoming President and to have Randy Hord as my vice
president. Like current and former Tiger Backers I attended RCC, played
football, and threw the javelin for the track team. I mention the javelin
because those of you who know me know I wasn't a sprinter. Randy also
attended RCC and was an all-everything football player during his time
as a Tiger and eventually went on to play football at USC.
It is interesting to note that my father, Gay, and Randy's father,
Roy, were also Tiger Backer presidents at one time or another through
the years. They formed the original Tiger Backers along with Gary Rawlings,
Nick Tavaglione, and Barry Meier. The goal of the Tiger Backers has
always been to help our student-athlete compete at their highest level,
and under Randy and I we will make sure the Tiger Backers continue to
help our student-athletes reach their dreams on and off the field.
As I write this I am saddened to hear that long-time Tiger Backer
and former president, and great guy Clyde "Smitty" Smith has passed
away. Smitty was our CPA for many years and attended countless games
at RCC along with his wife Kathy. Smitty will be truly missed.
Smitty would have been the first person to tell you the success stories
that the Tiger Backers have helped create through the years. I invite
you to help us continue to make great things happen here at our community
college. If you have been a Tiger Backer in the past, please continue
the journey. If you are considering becoming part of the team, please
accept this invitation to join a great support group.

your $100.00 check payable to the Tiger Backers, c/o Barry Meier, Athletic Director,
4800 Magnolia Ave., Riverside, CA 92506-1299. You will receive your
Tiger Backer membership card in 2 to 3 weeks.
