VASQUEZ ADVANCES TO REGIONAL GOLF TOURNAMENT GOLF MEN (4/30/2012) |
Riverside City sophomore golfer Mando Vasquez (Colton/Colton, CA) advanced to the Southern California Golf Tournament after finishing among the 10 ten golfers at the Orange Empire Conference Championship at Los Serranos Golf Club. Vasquez, who earn all-conference honors, shot a 36-hole total of 149. He was four-over (76) on the North Course and then closed with a one-over, 73 on the South Course.
As team, Riverside shot 766, which fell short in advancing as a team. Orange Coast won the conference title with a 734, with Santiago Canyon (750) and Cypress (751) finishing second and third, respectively. All three teams advance to the regional to compete for a chance at winning the CCCAA State title.

GOLF FINISHES 11TH AT GLENDORA INVITATIONAL GOLF MEN (3/27/2012) |
Riverside City's golf team had four of its five scorers shot in the 70s, yet the Tigers could only muster a 11th-place finish among the 18 teams participating in the Glendora Invitational, which was hosted by Citrus College at Glendora Country Club. Glendale was the overall winner, shooting a team score of 360. Canyons was second at 369, followed by Santa Barbara (370), Desert (372), Orange Coast (378) and Allan Hancock (379). Riverside finished with a team score of 388 behind 75s by Mando Vasquez and Zach Hammond. Canyons' Luke Kristo and Hancock's Austin Kaiser tied for medalists honors with 67s. |

GOLF SLIPS IN RACE FOR CONFERENCE TITLE GOLF MEN (3/21/2012) |
Two weeks ago, Riverside City's golf team was sitting in third place and within striking distance of the Orange Empire Conference title. But since that time the Tigers have lost 17 of 21 matches and have fallen to sixth place in the conference race. Riverside, who host a conference match on Monday, April 2 at Victoria Country Club, have posted a team score of 404 in a match at Santa Ana Country Club, which resulted in the Tigers (13-22) losing six of the seven matches. Riverside's lone victory cam against last-place Irvine Valley.
Three matches remain in the conference season before the eight-team Orange Empire Conference Championship match on April 30. The top two teams from the conference tournament will advance to the regional finals in May. |

MEN'S GOLF MOVES INTO THIRD-PLACE GOLF MEN (3/5/2012) |
Riverside City's golf team won five of seven matches on Monday, propelling the Tigers into third place in the Orange Empire Conference race. The Tigers, who shot 393 at Tijeras Creek, are 9-5 on the year and now chase Orange Coast (13-1) and Cypress (12-2) in the race for the conference title. In the match at Tijeras Creek, Riverside had four players shoot in the 70s. Mando Vasquez led Riverside with a 77. Teammates Cameron Buckley and Jimmy Palieri each shot 78 and Justin Sandoval, who overcame a 9 on his first hole, finished with a 79.
Currently Vasquez is fifth in the conference in scoring average at 75.5. The Tigers return to action on Monday, March 12 with a match at Sycuan Golf Course and then two days later travel to Twin Oaks. |

VASQUEZ PACES GOLF WITH A 3-OVER 74 GOLF MEN (2/29/2012) |
Riverside City sophomore Mando Vasquez (Colton/Colton, CA) recorded five birdies on his way a 3-over 74 as the Tigers finished fourth in an eight-way Orange Empire Conference match at the Rio Hondo Golf Club. Vasquez began his round with a double-bogey on the 418-yard, par-4 first hole, but managed to finish the front nine with a 39, three-over. He turned things around on the back nine, scoring four birdies on the first six holes, finishing the back nine with a 36.
Three other golfers - Cameron Buckley (77), Justin Sandoval (78) and Azch Hammnd (78) - finished with rounds in the 70s.
Orange Coast was the day's bigger winner, going 7-0. Santiago Canyon won six of its seven matches. Host Cypress went 5-2 with Riverside finishing above the .500 mark with a 4-3 mark. The Tigers continue their Orange Empire Conference schedule with a match on Monday, March 5 at Tijera Creek with host Saddleback. |

GOLF STRUGGLES TO A SEVENTH-PLACE FINISH GOLF MEN (2/13/2012) |
Riverside City hosted its Riverside invitational at Victoria Country Club, but head coach Steve Sigloch didn't get the result he had hoped for. The Tigers finished seventh in the 12-team field with a team score of 415. Golf-powerhouse College of the Desert won the invitational with a team score of 387. Palomar and Saddleback tied for second with a 400 score. Riverside was paced by Zach Hammond with a 79. Three golfers â Austin Grey (COD), Kyle Kanda (COD) and Ryan Beckies (Saddleback) â shot the day's low round with 75s. |

GOLF THIRD IN TWO-MAN BEST BALL EVENT GOLF MEN (2/6/2012) |
Riverside City's golf team tied for third at the Pnoomonia Invitational, a two-man, best-ball competition at Spring Valley Lake Golf Course. The Tigers, led by Mando Vasquez/Justin Sandoval's one-under 71, shot 216 for the day. College of the Desert won the event with a 204, with Orange Coast collecting second place with a 210. Riverside and Santiago Canyon tied for third, followed by El Camino (218), Mt. San Jacinto (222), Saddleback (222), Irvine Valley (224), Victor Valley (226) and Antelope Valley (246).

MEN'S GOLF FINISHES SIXTH AT OPENING TOURAMENT GOLF MEN (2/1/2012) |
Riverside City men's golf team finished in sixth place at the 11-team Tee-Off Classic at Los Serranos Golf Course. Riverside City finished the two-day event with a score of 779. Glendale was the tournament's overall winner, finishing with a score of 749. Desert was second at 752, followed by Orange Coast (762), Cypress (762) and host Santiago Canyon (774). Riverside City bettered Palomar (783), Saddleback (786), Irvine Valley (807), Cuyamaca (823) and Victor Valley (932).
Individually, Riverside freshman Zach Hammond fired an opening round of 74. Teammate Cameron Buckley also finished with a two-over 74. On the second day, the Tigers were led by Martin Westermeyerrâs 75.
The Tigers resume action on Monday, February 6 when the Tigers play in the play Pnoomonia Invitational at Spring Valley Lake Country Club. |

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT AND VIEWPOINTS LAUNCHES TIGER TV GENERAL NEWS (9/15/2011) |
The Riverside athletic department, in conjunction with Viewpionts, the District's on-campus newspaper, has launched Tiger TV.
James Martinez, Matt Dziak and Javier Cabrera, editor in chief of Viewpoints, will cover Tiger athletics from the sidelines to the locker room, giving Tiger fans an inside look at the week's happenings.
There will be post-game interviews as well as a weekly wrap up and highlights from all 19 athletic teams during the 2011-12 season.
"We're excited about Tiger TV," said Athletic Director Barry Meier. "It will be another way for us to keep the community involved in the 19 athletic programs and the student-athletes who work so hard - in the classroom and on the field.
"Viewpoints is a top-notch college newspapers and (associate professor of Journalism) Allan Lovelace does a tremendous job working with his students to put them in a position to pull off a project like this. In the end, this is a win-win, a win for our student-athletes and win for the students wanting a career in broadcast journalism." |

Community Education Football Offense/Defense Class
Riverside City's Kinesiology Department will be offering a spring Community Education class for Football Fundamentals (KIN-A60/A61 in the spring schedule or the college catalogue). The course provides the student an opportunity to learn general and specific individual defensive and offensive football fundamental techniques and strategies, emphasizing active participation in the game of football. The community education class is open to all students. Participants can sign-up on the Community Education website or in person the first day of class, which is Tuesday, April 3. The Community Education class will take place from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays on the football practice field. Students should come in proper football attire, which includes shorts and cleats. Cost is $36, please bring exact change. This is a noncredit class. Instructor is Tom Craft. |

Community Education Out of Season (Basketball) Conditioning Class
Riverside City's Kinesiology Department will be offering a spring Community Education class for Out of Season Basketball Conditioning Class (KIN-A95 in the spring schedule or the college catalogue). The course applies advanced conditioning and weight training principles for an out-of-season training program for varsity sport competition. The community education class is open to all students. Participants can sign-up on the Community Education website or in person the first day of class, which is Tuesday, April 17. The Community Education class will take place from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm in Wheelock Gym, on Monday through Friday with the end date being June 7. Students should come in proper attire, which includes gym shoes. Cost is $36, please bring exact change in you plan on registering in person. This is a noncredit class. Instructor is Joshua Thomas. |

This course is designed to introduce students to the rules, basic skills, and offensive/defensive strategy in soccer Emphasis will be placed on improving individual skills and applying these skills to game situations Subsequent enrollment in additional semesters will provide the student an opportunity for added skill competency development.
