Six of the first 10 seeds are held by Orange Empire Conference teams - Orange Coast (No. 5), Cypress (No. 6), Irvine Valley (No. 7), Riverside (No. 9), Golden West (No. 10). The victory earned Riverside sole possession of fourth place with one match remaining on Wednesday at Cypress College at 6 p.m.

The last time, Riverside made the playoffs was 2006. An appearance this season would be just the Tigers' seventh appearance all time. Riverside is 1-6 lifetime in the post season. The Tigers' only victory in the playoffs came in 2001 when they beat Long Beach City in four games.

In the win over Saddleback, Riverside got double-digit kill totals from Savannah Breazile (15) and Amanda Vialpando (12). Setter Brittney Diffine finished with 37 sets for point winners.

The victory enhances Riverside's chances of qualifying for the post-season. With two matches remaining, the Tigers, ranked No. 16 in the state, stands in fourth-place, a victory in front of Golden West, which the Tigers have beaten twice. Riverside hosts Saddleback on Friday before closing out the season at Cypress, which is the state's No. 5 ranked team.

Orange Coast stopped Riverside's two-match win streak as the Pirates scored a 25-18, 25-17, 25-19 victory over the Tigers in an Orange Empire Conference match. Despite the loss, Riverside remains in the hunt for a post-season bid. The Tigers have three matches remaining - two against sub. 500 teams and their finale against Cypress, a team Riverside pushed to five games before falling.

In the loss to Orange Coast, Riverside got 13 kills from freshman Amanda Vialpando.

VOLLEYBALL BEATS GOLDEN WEST, BATTLES FOR PLAYOFF SPOT

The victory was Riverside's second over Golden West this season, but more importantly gives Riverside a needed boost as the Tigers continue to chase a post-season berth.

Riverside has four matches let, including Friday's key match against Orange Coast in Costa Mesa. The Pirates defeated Riverside earlier this season in three straight games. After two easier matches against Fullerton and Saddleback, Riverside will square off against Cypress. The Chargers beat Riverside earlier this year, but they needed five games to fight off the Tigers. All of the matches, but the one against Saddleback are on the road.

In the win over Golden West, Riverside got 16 kills from freshman sensation Amanda Vialpando. Freshman Savannah Breazile added 14 kills, while freshman setter Brittney Diffine continued her fine season with 53 setting assists over the course of the five games.

Golden West will be out for revenge on Wednesday (Nov. 4) after the Tigers stunned the Rustlers in their first meeting. Meanwhile, a victory over Orange Coast on Friday (Nov. 6) could cement Riverside's hopes of a post-season bid. Riverside has just five matches remaining - three against teams that are above the Tigers in the standings of the Orange Empire Conference.

In the win over Santa Ana, head coach Monica Hayes-Trainer played everyone as eight different players registered kills.

VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO IRVINE VALLEY

The loss drops Riverside into a fifth place in the conference standings headed into the final round of conference play beginning Wednesday when the Tigers host Irvine Valley in a 6 p.m. match.

In the loss to Cypress, Riverside was up 2 games to 1, but couldn't close out in the fourth game as the Chargers rallied to win 27-25.
